Historical FactsOn May 31st, 1918 the port was elevated to a municipality and the name was changed to Puerto Vallarta in memory of the illustrious lawyer and governor of Jalisco, Don Ignacio L. Vallarta. On 1956 the movie “The night of the Iguana” with Ava Gardner and Richard Burton was filmed, putting Puerto Vallarta on the map. In 1970 Vallarta hosted the important meeting of the Presidents of Mexico and the USA. In 2004 and 2005 Puerto Vallarta was voted as the friendliest city in the world by Conde Nast magazine.
